PreS-Gr 1 -There is nothing left to the imagination in these -workbooks in trade format, - and nothing much for children and parents to discuss. The answer to the counting questions is always a repetition of the book -s title, and even the name of the boy in each book is the featured number. The artwork is bland, and the texts read like simple counting, addition, and subtraction problems joined together by a loose plot. At one point in "Nine", a -real astronaut - comes and picks up Nine for a ride in a -real spaceship - that looks like a child -s drawing of a flying saucer. In "Five", the boy, Five, goes out in a boat fishing alone and throws everything he catches and counts back into the sea. These children are totally alone in their simplistic world and do not interact with any other characters.
