"A thrilling and immersive work of speculative climate fiction." —Kirkus Reviews
The second installment in the topical, award-winning Heartless Series, Nostalgia Is Heartless delves into a world on the brink of climate catastrophe.
Pregnant, unemployed, and living back home with her father, scientist Quinn Buyers wonders how she got to this point. Her famous scientist mother is still mysteriously missing, the planet is at risk from a massive solar storm, the pesky Transhumans want to take a colony to Titan, and her assisted living companion, a robotic meerkat, is showing clear signs of anxiety and depression. But her biggest challenge is her partner. How can she reconcile her long-distance relationship with this reserved, enigmatic cyborg?
This time, Quinn's adventures take her across the globe to Antarctica . . . where it rains all day, every day. Full of humor and whimsy, Nostalgia Is Heartless will delight readers as they follow Quinn's race to save her family, her planet, and—hopefully—her love life.

Climate scientist Quinn Buyers returns in the sequel to Gravity is Heartless (2020). Quinn is heavily pregnant and staying with her father and robot meerkat, contemplating life and figuring out her next move. As Quinn navigates her rapidly changing world--eking out a relationship with Tig and navigating the political environment, she and Tig have their own agendas--readers will sympathize with her basic desires to find her mother and continue her research. There is much afoot in the rapidly warming climate, including a misguided, cultlike group in Antarctica who is making things worse despite their intentions. While the novel has a slow start, it's worth sticking it out; once the fast-paced adventures start, putting the book down is difficult. As in Gravity is Heartless, the supporting cast shines, including two new characters, siblings Anvil and Strat, who bring fresh perspectives to the series. The political scenes can run a bit long, but are integral to the story. The cliffhanger (though possibly somewhat unrealistic) ending will have readers eagerly awaiting the next installment of the series.
