Horror meets humorous urban fantasy in third book of the White Trash Zombie series • Winner of the 2012 Best Urban Fantasy Protagonist by the RT Awards
Our favorite white trash zombie, Angel Crawford, has enough problems of her own, what with dealing with her alcoholic, deadbeat dad, issues with her not-quite boyfriend, the zombie mafia, industrial espionage and evil corporations. Oh, and it’s raining, and won’t let up.
But things get even crazier when a zombie movie starts filming in town, and Angel begins to suspect that it’s not just the plot of the movie that's rotten. Soon she's fighting her way through mud, blood, bullets and intrigue, even as zombies, both real and fake, prowl the streets.
Angel’s been through more than her share of crap, but this time she’s in way over her head. She’ll need plenty of brainpower to fit all the pieces—and body parts—together in order to save herself, her town, and quite possibly the human race.
At least for now.

Angel Crawford, a working-class Louisiana zombie whose job as a morgue tech keeps her supplied with the brains that prevent her from decaying into a homicidal monster, is caught up in undead politics when she’s almost run over on the set of—ironically—a zombie movie. Tying up loose ends from Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues and setting the stage for the next book, Angel’s third outing paddles into the tepid waters of middle-book syndrome, but there’s enough zombie action and humor to keep series fans invested. Angel remains a likable underdog, striving to improve her lot as well as living the life of an ethical zombie: the reader never loses sight of the fact that in life she was dealt a rough hand—poverty, dyslexia, a neglectful mother—and no amount of zombie-mojo will make that go away entirely. Agent: Matt Bialer, Sanford J. Greenburger Associates.

A lot has happened since drug-addicted dropout Angel Crawford became a zombie (My Life as a White Trash Zombie; Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues) and started cleaning up her life, and this new title might not be the easiest place for newcomers to jump in. Angel still works at the morgue where she obtains a steady supply of the brains that keep her sane and undetected by normals, but things get a little meta when a film company decides to produce a zombie movie in her small Louisiana town. Something is rotten on the set as the zombie hunters Angel has crossed in the past seem to be up to some new tricks. VERDICT More urban fantasy than horror, this dark but very funny series nonetheless packs in a decent amount of gore for those who are more used to zombies as villains instead of as appealing reformed punkette heroines.
