Phobias are excessive, irrational fears that can be severe and debilitating. With descriptions of the symptoms of specific phobias and other anxiety disorders, including panic disorder and social phobia, this book is a helpful resource. The text explains multiple theories about the cause of phobias. It also explains what recent brain research has revealed about the neurobiological processes underlying fear and phobia. Additional chapters describe methods for treating phobias and ways to manage fear and anxiety in everyday life.

Gr 7 Up-The seriousness of brain disorders and diseases are tackled in this practical and manageable series. Marketed as high-interest, low-reading level volumes, they provide information about disease and disorder backgrounds, diagnostics, treatments, and recovery or illness management. The font is a readable size with plenty of white space between the lines, and the texts are complemented by stock and archival photos and diagrams. A few of the titles could benefit from better diagrams of the brain, e.g., in Addiction and Brain Injuries an image fails to show some of the parts being described in the text. Helpful sidebars separate myths from truth and provide additional facts. Attractively package and full of information, these titles can be used for reports or for readers dealing with these issues.
