Lena, Zack, Dory, and Stu have been friends forever, running around the South Bronx as irresponsible teenagers and as marginally more responsible adults. They've gotten jobs, gotten married, and had kids, but their bonds are as strong as ever. When Zack and Lena are threatened with eviction after losing their jobs during the Great Recession, Dory and Stu know they can squeeze everyone into their house while they figure out their next steps. However, a willful teenage daughter and too much masculine pride put a crimp in the group's plans. As the reader learns more about Lena and Zack's precarious financial situation, Dory and Stu begin to reveal some secrets of their own. Probing those things even the closest of friends keep to themselves, Gologorsky's latest (Stop Here, 2013) is a gritty and realistic portrait of blue-collar life. Fans of Elizabeth Strout and Andre Dubus III will appreciate the author's lean, taut prose and the ways it contrasts the highs and lows of urban living. Wistful and nostalgic, Every Body Has a Story proves exactly that.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2018, American Library Association.)
