The Witch Trials

How do you trust anyone when you've been lied to by everyone?

Ever since my best friend's brother was murdered by a vampire, all I've wanted is to be a Warden — the police force of the Coven. The only thing left to do is coach another witch through her Trials so she can prove her loyalty and join the Coven. Sounds easy, right? Yeah, I thought so too, until I realized she has no idea she's a witch.
We've only got a few months before the Summer Solstice when she'll be assigned her first Trial. That's not nearly enough time to teach her everything I know about magic, but it'll have to be if I ever want to see my dream come true: to protect those I care about most.

So, life is not exactly going to plan. Dad has cancer, our family bookstore is bankrupt, and, oh yeah, I caught my house on fire in my sleep! Okay, my parent's house, but still. Now this guy is here trying to convince me I'm a witch. I don't want to believe him, but how else do you explain all the weird things I can do now?
He wants me to complete these Trials to join his Coven, but the thought of tracking down three supernatural criminals and turning them in to be sacrificed is not exactly my idea of a good time, especially not when my best friend turns out to be a faerie.
But how can I turn him down when this could be the only chance to save my dad's life?
