Join Gideon Sable and his misfit crew for their biggest supernatural heist yet! Their target: the Preserve, Britain's Area 51. The prize: something not of this world. . .

Gideon Sable – con artist, master thief and self-proclaimed vigilante – is hired for a job he can't refuse: to break into the Preserve, the British government's version of Area 51. Once inside, he'll have free reign to take any of the valuable, mystical artefacts he desires from the collection.

But his benefactor is only interested in one thing: something almost impossible to steal. . .

This may be Gideon's most dangerous trial yet, not just because of the state-of-the-art supernatural security, but the otherworldly being it's guarding.

The one thing Gideon knows for sure is that with his crew, and the right amount of preparation, he can steal anything. Are they ready to face what the Preserve holds? Or, will Gideon find himself a permanent part of the collection?

The next fast-paced instalment in the Gideon Sable urban fantasy series from New York Times bestselling author Simon R. Green. Perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows and C.K. McDonnell's Stranger Times series.

Master thief and con man Gideon Sable has a plan. He intends to breach the private vault of Fredric Hammer, noted bad guy, and rob him blind. To do that, he needs to assemble a crack team of professionals. But this is no ordinary team, because this is no ordinary London. This is an alternate London, wherein ghosts and demons and people with special gifts coexist with regular human folk. And Gideon's team consists of former girlfriend Annie Anybody, whose gift is luck; a fellow known as the Damned (because he's, you know, damned); the Ghost, who retains the memory of what it is to be a man; and the Wild Card, who sees all the truths in the world. Each of them has a score to settle with Hammer, and each of them is willing to risk plenty to get revenge. This novel by the author of the terrific Ishmael Jones series is a treat for anyone who relishes the blending of alternate-world fantasy, urban fantasy, and the caper novel. Exciting, witty, and stuffed full of fun.

Gideon Sable and his crew are like a supernatural version of the TV series Leverage, where the heroes are no better than the villains but they mostly operate on the side of the angels--even if one of them is "The Damned." This outing's over-the-top heist is to steal a ghost from Britain's super-secret underground version of Area 51, while dodging one of Gideon's old enemies and worrying over which one of his old friends isn't exactly friendly anymore. It's all in a day's work for this madcap crew of con artists and tricksters who always save themselves in the nick of time, with the most panache and bloodshed possible. For series readers and fans of the author's trademark snark, this latest entry in the "Gideon Sable" series (after What Song the Sirens Sang) is a real treat, even more so because it confirms a link between Gideon's world and that of Green's other supernatural hero, Ishmael Jones. VERDICT A blast for urban-fantasy readers looking for a broken fourth wall riddled with dry-witted commentary, evil getting its just deserts, and the good walking away to fight the good fight.--Marlene Harris

Gideon Sable, the professional thief who specializes in obtaining things of an otherworldly, supernatural nature, returns for a fourth adventure. In the Preserve, Britain's version of Area 51 in the U.S., all manner of supernatural and extraterrestrial artifacts are kept under heavy guard. Gideon has been hired to get into the Preserve and steal perhaps the most unstealable item in the world: a ghost. How can he and his crack team of uniquely talented cohorts possibly carry out this mission? Green, who's known for his novels about Ishmael Jones, an alien living among humans, shows readers with the Gideon Sable books that he has a seriously good grasp of the intricacies of the caper novel. His characters are full-bodied, and their alternate-world Britain setting is gripping, but the series would fail if it didn't have solid heist stories at the core. The story here (and in the previous three series installments) is so strong that it should satisfy even the most demanding of caper-novel devotees. Keep 'em coming!
