Carlos is not sure that his favorite sport can be played with an oval-shaped ball. Chris is not sure that it can be played with a round ball. K-Gr 3-In this bilingual, easy reader-like introduction to "futbol" and "football," Colato Lainez makes use of his Salvadoran immigrant experience to bridge the cultural divide between his two protagonists, Chris and Carlos. The Lancman Ink team's cartoon illustrations portray Chris as a blond child playing football and Carlos as brown-haired boy playing futbol. The boys hesitantly and then wholeheartedly embrace the differences between the games-from the disparate shapes of the balls to the technical terms and rules of each sport-thereby successfully building a friendship. To encourage further discussion, brief histories of football and soccer are provided at the end of the book, as is a non-phonetic glossary. Also included are Spanish and English language links for FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association), NFL Rush for Kids, and Univision's Spanish-language NFL page.-Mary Margaret Mercado, Pima County Public Library, Tucson, AZ
