It's Monday morning at the Butler house and Liz is doing what she always does before school: standing in front of the mirror, singing and dancing to the sounds blasting from her boom box. But is Liz really as talented as everyone at her junior high school thinks she is? Can she win a citywide talent contest?

And if Liz does win what will she do with the prize money? There's a lot she really wants. Then she learns that Le, a Vietnamese boy in her school, may lose his home, the Queen Street Shelter. Can Liz's talent help keep Le from becoming homeless? Can Liz help Tayesha, too? Tayesha's father is African-American and her mother is German. Tayesha doesn't know if she looks black or white. Sixteen tension-filled chapters tell the whole story.
